Introducing to you is this VERY LOW MILE 1 OWNER 1970 Volkswagen Deluxe Type 2 transporter bus (A.K.A Clifford the red bus.) This bus is a time capsule to say the least! We have all of the paper work dating back years and what is very cool about it is that it also comes with the original purchase order from the Volkswagen dealer in Lewiston Idaho!! Please take the time to read this entire add as the story behind this bus is really cool and whomever buys it will be able to take it with them! Purchased in Lewiston Idaho in 1970 this bus was owned by a high school art teacher. He used it to go to work and go golfing. At one point he had built a bed in the back for when he went fishing and removed the middle and back bench seats for more cargo room. Other than that it didn’t get driven very heavily. Then as the years went on the bus was used less and less. At some point the owner moved down to Southern California with the bus. He took very good care of it. Over 17 years ago he had the engine rebuilt. But still didn’t drive it very much as he put maybe 1000 miles on it. Eventually the owner passed and so the bus was handed down to the son in law where it sat for 16 years… When we acquired the bus it was like stepping back into 1970. The only rust spot was a dime sized hole on the front passenger side floor of which we patched. Other than that the bus is VERY solid! At some point in time the rear corners were professionally replaced with proper metal (not bondo) and it appears that it has only had one re spray years ago. I didn’t want to mess with the exterior paint because it has such a sweet patina and ruin the originality of it. Look down the sides of the bus and you will find that it is as straight as can be! All of the glass is original as well as the front windshield with a repaired chip. I did replace the front windshield rubber. Inside the bus (under the floor mats) the floors look almost brand new. All of the seats are in fantastic condition for their age. I did re upholster the two front seats as well as install a Z bed in the back so that you can fold it down and sleep in it if you are traveling to a campsite. The headliner is decent but does have a patch under the slider door and a few little holes above the driver side. Again we didn’t want to replace it as it is original and in our opinion should stay that way. New front floor rubber was installed. We also sound proofed the entire bus under every panel. Here is what we did recently to the bus mechanically: New tires 4 new wheel cylinders, brake lines, and bled the brakes New carburetor, New Electronic Distributer (Note, we still have all of the original factory carb, and vacuum distributer that still work well that will go with the bus when sold) New throw out barring and clutch New throttle cable and gas pedal linkage New fuel sending unit, new fuel lines New plugs, wires, rotor and cap, valves adjusted and timed Recent oil change as well as serviced the original transaxle New battery New undercoating for underneath the bus There is probably more that I am missing on here but I think you get the gist. Folks if you are looking for an all matching numbers, early bay window bus with loads of paperwork, and all of the history that goes with it! Then this is the one for you! The bus runs and drives incredibly well and keeps up with HWY speeds. The heater works very well and all of the air ducts are free of debris. We aren’t looking for someone who just is looking for a bus to be cool. We are looking for the right buyer who will care and appreciate the originality of this bus and respect it for what it is. If you are that person then please give us a call! You will not find one out there like this in this original condition PERIOD! Buyers are responsible for shipping.
